The site needs a chat room. The Tommy Boyd chat room is infamous and I think a Charlie Wolf one would be just as successful.

Also any chance of getting some audio of Charlie when he was not on talkSport?

Keep up the good work Mr Clarke!

Oki-doke. I'll set it up.

There was a bloke who phoned up talkSPORT and played an old recording of Charlie. I'm not sure that I still have it, but I'll have a hunt around. Who knows, I might get lucky. Smile

In the meantime, there's an old recording of Charlie amongst the audio at this site...

Yeas, It would be fun. Hay ian, can you tell us some other of the features you plan to but on the site? Maybe you could get charlie to write something you could put up here, dunno what though.

Dunno, Chris. Playing it by ear at the moment. There was an idea I proposed to Charlie that would involve him writing a bit for the site, but I think it unfair/unwise to start giving out details while it's still on the drawing board.

I'm hoping this site will evolve into something special, so any ideas you can think of will be much appreciated.

P.S. Given Charlie's views on chatrooms, I thought it best to check with him first before I add it. So don't get too excited yet!

In the meantime, I've been looking around for suitable scripts to use (I think I've found one already). If Charlie okay's it, the chatroom should be operational very soon afterwards. Whatever the case, I'll keep you updated on the situation.

@Ian: Hi pal! We met yesterday in the demo-chat of mazenphp.de. I told you, that I would evaluate the mazen solution and I did. It is currently running and fully functional. You might be interested in the fact, that the scripts take use of JavaScript, too. For me and a few of my buddies this is bad news as some of the firewalls/proxies we have to pass during beeing at work filter such sript content Sad.

Btw, did you already find a script that fits your needs?

Well, having just spoken to you in your chatroom, you now know the answer to that. Smile

I'll let you know what I eventually decide upon. Cheers.

I see no reason to close it. Whether it becomes a part of this site or not, is another matter though.

But I'm glad to hear it's popular. Smile

MWS: "I think it's the Tommy Boyd chatroom that cause most of the trouble"

CW: "Well, I wouldn't be surprised, I wouldn't be surprised"

MWS: "I mean, I went in there, and it was full of nutters and things."

CW: "See, the Tommy Boyd chatroom is like the exact opposite of Tommy Boyd"

MWS: "It scared me a bit, I tell you"

CW: "They're weird people, you know. People you'd never see Tommy Boyd with you will find on the Tommy Boyd chatroom"

Ian, what happened to that particular piece of audio that was on your site - it was classic!

Followed by

mws: "Keep up the good work Tommy"

CW: "Piss off. i think this is the latest scam from the chatroom - they are all going to call me Tommy. We're dealing with it..."

Ah the good old days before the room became full of pre-pubescent children and middle aged paedos trying to pick them up (take note Laa)

Unfortunately, you encoded the mp3's on that CD in stereo... the source was mono. The resultant sound is warbled, due to your encoding software attempting to split one channel into two. I haven't yet found a satisfactory way of correcting this -- well okay, I have found a way, but I'll need a bigger hard drive to do it -- and the quality still won't be what it should be.

However, I have encoded the other two "seawolf tapes". The quality isn't brilliant, but I guess they're long overdue being put on the site. I'll upload them today.

It was encoded from a cassette, so the source was STEREO, albeit with the left and right channel being the same, so it sounds exactly like the cassette did. I left it as stereo because half of the recordings were taken from the studio skimmer tapes and may have been stereo, and if in doubt it's always best to leave the audio in its original format, as it's easy to change it later.
Just take the left (or right) channel and use that. It's very simple to do, If you give me ftp access I'll do the damn things myself and have them uploaded in a matter of days.

Is there any free software to do this?

I have something that will do the job, but only in wav format. Recording stereo wav's and stripping channels, tends to eat into your disk space a bit.

I use Soundforge. It's just a simple copy and paste to copy the left (or right) channel into another window. It also has various equalisers which I use to get rid of tape hiss, etc.., and normalise if it's too quiet. Soundforge converts any audio loaded into wav format, so if you're working with large files (30 min+) you need at least a gig spare to play with, then when you're finished you save it in the audio format of your choice.

Ian, after reading the post in the General Chat section regarding the article about Charlie in the Evening Echo and the weekly column that he is going to write I came up with an idea. How about putting Charlie's column on the site so other people like myself who cannot get the paper can read it.
